Message from Giffords Pac:
It should have been a fun night for families at the bowling alley and friends at a bar. Instead, it ended with scenes of people running away while law enforcement rushed in toward the danger.
Including last night’s mass shooting in Maine, there have now been 565 mass shootings in the United States this year. 565 mass shootings in 299 days.
I wish that I could send this message to you and say that scenes and stories we’ve read last night and today are unthinkable or unimaginable.
I wish I could say it’s hard to believe we’re waking up to read stories of parents corralling their young children into corners to protect them, and others racing down a bowling alley and diving behind pins to escape gunfire. but it is neither unthinkable nor unimaginable.
We are all too familiar with these horrific scenes.
We will see parents in parking lots crying, desperate for information about their kids. We will see loved ones talk about how their lives are forever changed because of senseless violence enabled by weapons of war. We will keep reading about how gun violence is the number one cause of death for America’s kids.
But we do not have to.
We can decide we have seen enough.
We do not have to accept these horrific acts of violence as routine, and we must never stop demanding that our leaders not only acknowledge this devastating problem, but take long overdue action to keep our children safe.
My heart breaks for the Lewiston community, the victims, and the survivors. Earlier this week, I visited Uvalde and met with the families and survivors of that mass shooting.
I’m angry that yet another community has to experience this pain.
Our leaders must act.
Thank you for reading,
Message from POTUS below
Once again, our nation is in mourning after yet another senseless and tragic mass shooting yesterday.
Today, Jill and I are praying for the Americans in Lewiston, Maine who’ve lost their lives, for those still in critical care, and for the families, survivors, and community members enduring shock and grief.
For countless Americans who have survived gun violence and been traumatized by it, a shooting such as this reopens deep and painful wounds. Far too many Americans have now had a family member killed or injured as a result of gun violence. That is not normal, and we cannot accept it.
While we have made progress on gun safety through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the two dozen executive actions I’ve taken, and the establishment of the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, it’s simply not enough.
Today, in the wake of yet another tragedy, I urge Republican lawmakers in Congress to fulfill their duty to protect the American people. Work with us to pass a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, to enact universal background checks, to require safe storage of guns, and end immunity from liability for gun manufacturers. This is the very least we owe every American who will now bear the scars — physical and mental — of this latest attack.
We have to do more.

House Lawmakers Call for Israel -Gaza Ceasefire
See all the speakers in the Live Coverage by Now Politics at the link provided above.
U.S. House Representatives Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Cori Bush (D-MO), Summer Lee (D-PA), and others are holding a news conference Monday to call for a cease-fire in the Israel-Gaza war. More than 11,000 people in Gaza have been killed since October 7, with approx 40% of them being children, according to Palestinian officials, via Reuters. Watch live.
Big Papa Foundation adamantly calls for Ceasefire and prays for world peace.
Civilian casualties in Gaza grow by the day — with the death toll in Gaza reaching over 10,000. The UN Secretary General said Gaza is becoming a “graveyard for children.”1
President Biden can act to reduce the risk of civilian casualties by halting the United States’ transfer of 155mm artillery shells to Israel.
According to OxFam,155mm artillery shells are a weapon of choice for Israel in Gaza. These unguided, explosive shells are loaded with TNT and burst into around 2,000 metal fragments upon impact.2
In a densely populated urban area like the Gaza Strip, use of these shells would be highly indiscriminate. There are no known scenarios in which 155mm artillery shells could be used in Israel’s ground operation in Gaza in compliance with international humanitarian law.3
On October 18, the Pentagon said the United States plans to supply Israel with tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells.4 This is the last thing the U.S. government should be doing to fuel this conflict.
The deadly, indiscriminate use of 155mm artillery shells are a huge danger to civilians in Gaza now and in the future. Some shells that fail to explode instead become potentially lethal “duds” that may explode in the future, killing and injuring civilians decades after conflict ends.5
It’s time for a ceasefire in this war. And while a ceasefire is being negotiated, President Biden must take steps to limit civilian casualties in Gaza. It is extremely likely that U.S. weapons are helping to wage Israel’s bombing campaigns,6 and that must end, especially use of weapons that uniquely threaten civilians now and for decades to come.
Thanks for taking action,
